The latest AI model, Gemini 1.5 Flash, was unveiled at Google I/O 2024. It is considered to be Google’s fastest model so far. Based on the powerful Gemini Pro backend, Flash is specifically designed to handle high-speed tasks. The AI tool can understand and process text, images and audio and has an impressive 1 million token context window.

Developers can look forward to a private preview for Gemini 1.5 Pro. It features an expanded 2 million token context window. The new version is intended to further improve the capabilities of the model, but registration on a waiting list is required. Both Gemini 1.5 Flash and Pro are currently available in over 200 countries worldwide.

Google also announced that it is adding PaliGemma to the Gemma family. This language model includes various applications such as image captioning and image Q&A. With the different sizes of Gemma, including the new Gemma 27B launching as part of Gemma 2 in June, powerful AI models can now be implemented on a wide range of devices.

Android development tools with AI integration

The Android Studio improvements presented at Google I/O 2024 are particularly promising. With Gemini, you receive tailored code suggestions directly in your development platform. This means that you no longer have to spend hours poring over complicated code, but instead receive intelligent suggestions to increase productivity.

The integration of Gemini into Android Studio also opens up new opportunities for developing AI-driven features and applications. Gemini can be used to build intelligent features such as speech recognition, image recognition and recommendation systems into apps without having to rely on additional external resources or libraries.

Gemini Nano: AI for Chrome

Chrome DevTools has also received an upgrade that connects Gemini to Chrome DevTools Console Insights. This turns the AI model into a helping assistant. DevTools have always been useful for providing developers with warnings and error messages when a website does not work as expected. However, these notifications are often difficult to understand and their cause is not easy to identify.

Gemini is designed to have a comprehensive overview of a website’s code and can access a wide range of error codes and their causes. Based on this, it can provide practical troubleshooting recommendations and even produce example code to help solve problems.
