AWS wants to outpace competition with new AI tools updates

Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced a series of updates to its AI products on Wednesday to consolidate its market position. In view of the increasing competition in the cloud business, AWS is focusing on the rapid development of its AI tools in order to attract new customers.

AWS predicts strong competition in cloud services

AWS, already a leading cloud services provider, is facing increased competition. To stay at the top, AWS intends to deliver improved AI features in a short period of time.

“We’ve done over 320 generative AI major feature launches into general availability this year, and that’s more than twice than all of the other large cloud providers combined,” said Matt Wood, vice president of AI products at AWS, in an interview with Axios.

Fine-tuning of LLMs and better error detection

A new feature on the market is the ability to fine-tune large language models, such as Anthropic’s Claude 3. This allows customers to optimize the performance of LLMs by using their own data. Thereby, companies get more precise results by tailoring the models to the individual requirements of their industry. In addition, AWS makes it easier to integrate private data to increase the accuracy of AI models.

AWS has also introduced a new function to detect “hallucinations” in AI-generated answers. “Hallucinations” are errors where AI provides incorrect or irrelevant information. The new feature can detect and filter over 75% of these errors. This significantly improves the reliability and trustworthiness of AI-based content.

Amazon and other major technology companies are investing billions in developing AI computing power to support new capabilities. But analysts are skeptical that these investments will be enough. It remains to be seen whether there’s enough incremental revenues to generate a positive return, wrote Bernstein analysts to their clients earlier this year.
